What We Do:
As a functioning department of Massanutten
Resort, we utilize our first aid and skiing skills to serve the
ski area and public in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
Our primary function is to provide basic life support, first aid,
rescue and on-the-slope transportation to injured resort guests
along with skier/ rider education. Other duties include safety-related
responsibilities such as opening the area each morning; maintain
a safe skiing environment during operations and closing the area
at the end of the night. In addition to wintertime activities, the
patrol is active in the promotion of educational programs concerning
outdoor sports. We are an integral part of numerous special events
and outdoor activities such as mountain bike races. The Massanutten
Patrol is a premier organization that is highly visible during ski
area operations, trained to the highest standards, active in many
aspects of the outdoor community and most importantly having a great
time doing it!

Who We Are:
MSP is an active member of the National
Ski Patrol, Southern
Division, Virginia Region. We are a dedicated and talented group
comprised of volunteer and paid patrollers serving the needs of
Massanutten Resort’s guests. The patrol is a closely knit network
of family and friends determined to make the snow sport experience
as safe and enjoyable as possible. Our patrollers training includes
the premier National Ski Patrol’s Outdoor Emergency Course combined
with CPR, ski and snowboard training, toboggan handling skills,
lift evacuation practices and countless specialized skills. In addition
to serving our guests, many of our members may be found on rosters
in various levels of the National Ski Patrol playing an active role
the administration of NSP programs, as well as shaping the future
of the organization. We are guided by our love for the sport, in
addition to the missions of the National Ski Patrol, National Ski
Area Associations and area management.

MSP History:
The Massanutten Patrol was formed in 1972,
and consisted of a handful of adventurous members. Since then, the
patrol has grown to a 100 plus member organization. Initial responsibilities
included patrolling the original slopes of Massanutten with the
best training available at the time. As the resort grew, so did
the patrol. Our cutting edge training consists of the latest curriculum
in outdoor emergency care. The focus has shifted to providing
more education and the ever increasing efforts to elevate the safety
of our sport. Through the 35 year plus history, the Massanutten
Patrol, and its individual members, achieved countless recognition
and achievement awards on local and national levels. As we continue
to create the further history of this special organization, only
the future will tell the heights this patrol will achieve.
